About Kerry Smith

Equine Bowen Therapist & Professional Dog Carer in Dartmoor

You want your animal to feel safe, understood, and able to relax — and Kerry’s work is shaped around creating exactly that experience. She recognises that horses and dogs are thinking, feeling beings, each with their own histories and sensitivities. Her approach is calm, patient, and observant, offering the steady presence your animal needs to soften, release tension, and trust. She notices the small cues others might miss, and responds with thoughtful, compassionate care.

If you want to support your animal’s physical and mental wellbeing, Kerry brings more than three decades of experience to guide the process. She works well with sensitive horses and dogs, and with owners who believe emotional ease is just as important as physical comfort. Whether you’re seeking Bowen therapy for your horse or calm, reliable care for your dog, Kerry offers a peaceful environment and capable hands you can feel completely confident in.

“I’ve learned that when we slow down, listen, and give a horse or dog the calm they deserve, they tell us exactly what they need. My role is simply to respond with gentle, capable hands.” ~Kerry

Kerry’s Story

Kerry’s connection with animals began in childhood and has shaped every part of her life since. She has worked across a wide range of equestrian settings — from competition yards and stud farms to the training of semi-feral Dartmoor ponies — giving her a depth of experience that allows her to understand horses far beyond their outward behaviour.

Over the years, Kerry has become known for her calm, observant way of working, especially with sensitive or complex horses who need patience rather than pressure.

Her interest in Bowen Therapy began more than twenty years ago, when her own horses responded with remarkable changes after treatment.

That experience led her to train formally in Equine Bowen Therapy and to continue her education through ongoing CPD, including the Masterson Method, Reiki, and fascia-based studies.

Kerry’s approach reflects a belief shared by many thoughtful owners: that the horse’s emotional and physical wellbeing are deeply connected, and that gentle, skilled work can create meaningful, lasting change.

Alongside her equine work, Kerry offers professional day care and home boarding for dogs in Dartmoor. Her steady, reliable presence and small-scale, peaceful environment help even sensitive dogs relax and feel secure.

Whether caring for dogs or supporting horses through Bowen therapy, Kerry’s ethos remains the same — to provide capable, compassionate hands and a harmonious space where animals can thrive.

Bramble is more than happy to go to Kerry on a regular basis. Plenty of walks, a warm fire, and Arlo to play with. It’s her second home. Thoroughly recommend Kerry Care.

“When I first treated this horse he was dull in his coat and general demeanour and appeared old for his years. He also had locking stifles on both hind legs, making him very uncomfortable and restricting his work routine. What a difference a few weeks can make. After a course of Bowen treatment this lovely horse was much improved. Not only were his stifles no longer sticking or his legs dragging but his overall posture improved considerably – standing much more square with improved coat condition and top line and so much happier in himself.”

“Both myself and my partner first experienced Bowen on ourselves and couldn’t believe the difference it made to us, we felt the healing power of her hands, you really can!  After now being convinced Kerry did some work on my 17 year old horse Maximus who was lacking energy along with a few other issues.  The difference I’ve noticed in him since having three treatments is amazing, he’s like a different horse- full of life and definitely has his mojo back! I highly recommend her.  Thank you Kerry xx”

”Before Kerry I had never experienced Bowen before and nor had my pony, both now converts!  We have both had the Kerry touch and highly recommend it!   Personally I felt a deep relaxation which with my lifestyle is a rarity, and a feeling of being more centred.  I have found a new sellotape to hold my body together!  Bear (my pony) has to have his nose in everything, and I mean everything, relaxed, the full works!  He had a new level of concentration and now works at a new level; I just need to keep up with him! For people and ponies alike- Kerry is a must”

Before Obe began his Bowen treatment he had been struggling with a number of issues, some old, deep seated ones and others more recent such as a fall a few years ago. Physical and emotional trauma stored in his body for many years is slowly being unravelled, allowing him to move more freely and let go of past trauma and associated behaviours. This photo shows Obe feeling rather full of himself after just one treatment!”
